Lactation Consultation

Breastfeeding is a physical, emotional and spiritual journey. 

The initial consultation is approximately 1.5-2hours and includes a thorough history, assessment and treatment plan for both the mother and the baby.

Pauline supports families in reaching their personal goals with breastfeeding and sees families for:

  • Physical issues with the breast: inverted or flat nipples, asymmetrical breast, tubular shaped breast and breast reduction / implants.

  • Health issues that can affect breastfeeding: diabetes, PCOS, hypo/hyperthyroidism.

  • Past Medical issues: multiple sclerosis, crohn’s and other autoimmune diseases.

  • Assessing a past less-than-desired breastfeeding experience.                                     

  • Beginning breastfeeding and hands-on help with early attempts at proper latch and positioning.  

  • Experiencing sore nipples, yeast infection of the nipple, or other nipple traumas.

  • Breast infections: mastitis, candidiasis, MRSA etc.

  • Engorgement of the breasts, plugged ducts, breast infections (mastitis) or any type of breast pain. 

  • When your baby won't latch on or is having trouble feeding due to any reason.

  • Concerned about your milk supply, supplementing or your baby’s weight gain. 

  • Herbal, food and prescriptive modalities for improving milk supply.

  • Nursing multiples, adoption, and preterm baby.

  • Medication use when breastfeeding, what is safe and what are the alternatives.

  • Weaning from breastfeeding.

  • Assisting with breastpump purchase, hospital grade rental, proper use of a pump and flange fitting 

  • Returning to work, pumping and storing of milk.

  • Baby issues: colic, reflux, spitting up, green stooling and fussy baby.

  • Oral ties: tongue, lip, buccal and frenectomy care and follow-up.

  • Introducing solids, normal growth and development, normal sleep patterns,
